RIP: Aircraft Radar Skill for Amazon Alexa
A few weeks ago I archived the GitHub repo for my Alexa Aircraft Radar skill. This was a project with which I was particularly happy when I launched it, but since then two things happened:
First, when ADS-B Exchange was purchased, they cut off my access to their data feed with no notice or communication, and they didn’t reply when I tried contacting them. This was especially disappointing, since I had been donating to them monthly for years, and when I first launched the skill they were enthusiastically supportive.
In 2018 I had a friendly email exchange with James Stanford from ADS-B Exchange, who wrote "100% awesome use of ADSBx data!" I also received an email in 2018 from Dan Streufert, owner of the site, who wrote in part, "I really like your Alexa Skill."
Sadly, in 2022 ADS-B Exchange cut off access for this Alexa skill with zero notice or communication, and I was unable to make contact with anyone there.
Second, recent Alexa anti-privacy moves finally convinced me to stop using Alexa altogether, so I have no interest in moving the skill to a different data source.
