Letter of Recommendation: Where to start with Alastair Reynolds
A friend asked me for a recommendation on where to start with Alastair Reynolds’ books. With the caveat that I haven’t (yet!) read his Merlin or Poseidon’s Children series, I have three suggestions. Pick the one that most resonates with you:
Revelation Space series: classic hard sci-fi space opera spread across galaxies and centuries with adventure, conflicts, and plenty of characters and storylines.
Prefect Dreyfus Emergency series: sci-fi police procedural mystery with space opera and all-powerful AI elements, set in a smaller universe and over a shorter timescale.
Revenger series: a galaxy-spanning space opera, with an ever-so-slightly less hard sci-fi feeling and more fantasy elements. Also space pirates!
